Spring is here, woo hoo! There's lots you can do to embrace the new season. Spring is a wonderful time to make some positive lifestyle changes such as getting outdoors to exercise in the warmer weather, reconnecting with friends and family and making the most of the season’s fresh fruit and vegetables.
Get outdoors
A cold, rainy winter has made it super easy to hibernate inside where it’s warm. Now that spring has arrived, it’s time to venture outside again and get some much-needed Vitamin D. Being in the great outdoors has heaps of benefits for us, not only is it good for our minds, but it also helps us be more active, and improves our sleep.
Many of us are fortunate to have access to beautiful local parks and recreational spaces so pay a visit and take in some blossoming scenery by going for a walk or a picnic.
Get in the garden
If you’ve got a garden, now is the time to give it some love and gain the health benefits.
Tidying up the garden is a fantastic way to be active, it can also help you reduce the stress levels of our often-hectic lives. There’s always plenty to do in the garden, from mowing the lawn, to trimming hedges and getting rid of those pesky weeds. Your mind and body will thank you for it and your garden will look great when summer rolls around.
Get planting
Now is a wonderful time to be thinking about growing some of your own food. Prepare a vegetable patch in your garden ready for new seeds.
Planting seeds will provide you with lots of fresh veges and herbs to turn into nutritious salads. Lettuce, spinach, parsley, tomatoes, and peas – there are plenty of tasty and healthy options to plant this spring. Check out the Tui spring gardening guide for what to plant now!
Get eating (healthily)
With the arrival of a new season, it’s time to mix things up on the menu. Veges and fruit that were in season in winter start to become more expensive, while spring produce becomes cheaper and more plentiful.
You can search for which fruit and veges are in season during different months throughout the year here: Seasonality Calendar
Get cleaning
So, now you’ve taken care of the garden, it’s time to freshen up indoors. We’re used to ‘four seasons in one day’ and this is particularly true in Spring. Use any rainy periods to do a spring clean inside and get rid of winter cobwebs.
A really good clean of your home is hard yakka but is so worth it. Get rid of any clutter too, create some more space and brighten things up. Not only will a clean, clutter-free home be good for your mind, cleaning it also helps you to be active.
